Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.
Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
